Clean the sensor faces — even a thin layer of paint over-spray completely changes the sensor’s response. A sensor that was recently painted over during a bumper repair will cause constant false triggering.
Rear camera image dark, distorted, or absent: Camera lens contaminated by mud, water droplets, or permanent hard water staining. Clean with a soft cloth and camera lens cleaner. A camera that shows a distorted or colour-shifted image despite a clean lens has internal sensor damage or a failing cable connection at the camera housing.
Parking sensor not beeping in one quadrant of the bumper: Individual sensor failed — internally damaged from an impact or with an open-circuit wiring fault at the connector. Confirm by disconnecting each sensor sequentially and observing which position’s removal does not change the system’s response.
Level 1 — Owner check: Clean parking sensor faces and the rear camera lens at every car wash. Clean the rear camera lens regularly — a dirty lens reduces the image contrast in which obstacles are visible.
Level 2 — Detection: Test parking sensor function by walking toward the front or rear of the vehicle with the system activated — the distance indication should increase progressively as you approach. Any sector that shows maximum distance (no reading) when an object is clearly within range confirms a faulty sensor in that position.
Level 3 — Professional service: Rear camera replacement requires connector re-sealing to prevent moisture ingress through the camera housing — a camera that has been replaced without proper sealing fogs internally from condensation within a few weeks.
