
Lotus is using over-the-air software to push autonomous driving capability to vehicles already in customers' hands — a meaningful demonstration of how post-sale updates can materially change what a car does. For a brand repositioning itself in the luxury EV space, adding self-driving features without a dealership visit is as much a statement about its software infrastructure as it is about the features themselves. It also puts pressure on the narrative that complexity is the enemy of the EV ownership experience — here, complexity is the product. Whether the implementation holds up in real-world use is the question the spec sheet can't answer.
